Ody is Doing Fine
Just a quick update, it's late and I'm quite tired. Ody is doing alright, after the first two days he decided he wasn't about to take his oral medications and just let it drool every where. So I've had to sneak it into his food and then sit and patiently* wait for him to eat it. I thought I'd share a quick moment I caught on my Blackberry earlier this evening.
*patiently means keeping the kittens away from his food laced with heavy pain medicine and antibiotics. It was not very patient at all, it was more like begging Ody to eat his food quickly.

Ody in Recovery
I picked up Ody this morning and he is doing fine. He's rather grouchy which I can completely understand, poor guy. He is heavily medicated and pretty loopy, so I assume the pain is minimal for now. He seems restless but falls over when he walks or goes in weird little circles so I've isolated him on the bed next to me. He's definitely not happy about it but it's for his own good.
I shot a short video of him eating, if you're squeamish you may not want to look. He was starving, poor guy, so I let him have some kitten food. The kittens haven't seen much of him, so they are quite fascinated by him, he growls at them, don't blame the poor guy hehe. I want to thank those who have reached out to me and donated and/or left some kind words. I'm truly humbled and grateful, it renews my faith in humanity. Those of us with animals are such kind hearted people and I am so elated to know all of you. =)

Ody is in Emergency Surgery
As I mentioned yesterday, Ody has a very bad eye infection. Apparently it was made worse when he scratched his own eye and it began bulging his eye in its socket. I am a nervous wreck about him making it through this surgery since he's 12 years old.
As I've mentioned before, I'm unemployed and I don't know how I'm going to pay for this surgery. The vet's were nice enough to give me two weeks to come up with the money. I am humbly asking for any of you that follow to contribute whatever you can to a fund for Ody's surgery. I really hate asking because he's not one of the fosters but he became infected from one of them due to my negligence of keeping everything as sterile as possible. I appreciate any thing you can give and any kind words. Thank you and God Bless.

MIA
I know, I know, it's been forever since I've posted anything. I've been dealing with infection going around the house for the cats. My oldest cat Ody has a very severe eye infection, I will spare you the photos cause it's kind of nauseating. I still have the three little fosters, Annie, Dana and Sammi, in addition to Momma and Angel. It's been a nightmare trying to keep everyone from getting this URI between all of them. For now, the "kittens" are healthy and happy, there have not been many adoption days because of holidays and emergencies with some of the other foster parents' animals.
So to lighten the mood, I thought I'd share with you, a little fetching Annie. It's pretty funny, my oldest cat Ody used to do this all the time with zip ties. (Recorded on my Blackberry so the quality is kinda sketchy.)

Little Dana Comes Out of Her Shell
If you've followed along with this set of fosters, you'll know that Dana has been the toughest feral to tame. For the last week I'v taken the safety of the box away and covered my bed with cat beds. Dana hid for awhile but eventually chose a bed and stuck to it. She LOVES to be pet as you will see evidenced in the following video:

Naked Bellies
The pictures didn't come out as good as I'd hoped but I shall take some more later today with some natural light coming in. Annie has decided she's mad at me, but the other two are all lovey so I guess that's a decent balance. I got their rabies tags and noticed their weights on the sheet. I could have sworn that kittens aren't supposed to be fixed until they are 5lbs, am I wrong? Because Annie and Dana are under 5lbs. Anyhow, pics....

Home Sweet (Foster) Home
I just got home with the three of them. They are a little groggy and sore but otherwise seem happy to have a room to wander around a bit. Thank you for all your support and kind words, it helped me get through the day. =)
I will take some shaved belly pics later, when they will inevitably konk out from the very long day.

Lots of Hand Wringing
I dropped the girls off late yesterday afternoon to get fixed and some booster shots. They looked so terrified in the big metal cage together. It just broke my heart, I put in their blanket so they'd have something familiar in the big cage. I worried about them all night, I couldn't sleep cause I just kept thinking of them so scared and confused at the vet's office. I am picking them up this evening, I hope they are happy to see me and not mad I took them there in the first place. I'm going to have a heavy heart all day.

Forty two
That's the answer, along with why I haven't been on in so long. I have had my hands quite full with 2 adult fosters, 3 sick kitten fosters and my own 3 cats. So, forgive me. =) The girls go next week to get the snip-snip so it won't be long before the lovely Annie and Dana will be off to a forever home together. In thanks for your kindly forgiveness, I have provided you this short video.

Heartwarming story in Japan
Original link with video: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3474547/Loyal-dog-saves-pal-from-rubble.html
A SHAKING and mud-splattered spaniel emerges from rubble to lead rescuers to a stricken pal in this heartwarming video from devastated Japan.
The exhausted animal had loyally remained with his four-legged chum since the earthquake and tsunami obliterated his home six days ago.
Reporters were covering the destruction in Ibaraki Prefecture, north-east Japan, when the canine appeared and led them back to the remains of a nearby house.
There they found the injured animal, they initially believed was dead, lying amongst the wreckage.
When they spotted the second dog stirring they called in a team from Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support, while his cold and bewildered companion returned to sit steadfastly in the spot at his pal's side where he had stood guard since Friday's disaster.
Wanting to stay watch over his mate, the spaniel refused to move for another hour before the pair could be separated and the injured dog whisked off to vets in nearby Mito.
His hero chum was taken to a shelter nearby.
The dfog had been wearing a collar but it is not known if his owner survived the horror four-storey wall of water that swept through the district.
Viewers of the touching footage, which has been posted on YouTube, have praised the brave pooch, with one saying: "That dog is a better person than most humans.
"Loyalty is the best word to use when you describe a dog. Truly, man's best friend is a well-deserved title."

My Little Orphans
Well, good news and bad news, they seem to be responding to the Clavamox and will take it for another week. They also have tape worm and ring worm so have another two meds to take daily for these. Otherwise, they have all gained weight yaaaay, their lungs sound pretty good and the doctor thinks they will be just fine in a couple weeks. Poor little Annie had to get a little hair cut so we could see her ringworm glow green under the special light at the vet's office. I'm glad they have been dewormed and hope that is what's had them feeling kinda yucky the past few days.

Sick Little Girls
Well the three girls have been on Clavamox for 10 days now, which I'm told is very strong, and the still sneeze and do that coughing thing that sounds like when they have a hairball. Little Annie, you can hear hear breathing and Samantha keeps getting a runny eye in her left eye. I think it's time to back to the vet and see what else we can do for these little ladies.
Annie is still the only brave one to get off the bed and wander around. Dana and Sammi stay in the box unless eating or using the bathroom. I'm starting to think perhaps I need to remove the box from the bed all together but I'm scared they will hide under my nightstand on the cold tile all day. Any recommendations??

Urgent Post from Covered in Cat Hair
FROM: http://coveredincathair.com/
Not on My Watch: 24 HRS TO SAVE 15 YR OLD CAT-URGENT!
Sun, 2011-02-27 11:22 — Robin OlsonLOCATION: DOUGLASVILLE, GEORGIA
DUMPED: 15 YEAR OLD, FEMALE
ID# 0850
BLOSSOM's owner brought her to animal control and paid a fee to have her euthanized instead of taking her to the vet's and paying for her to be treated for a urinary tract infection. Poor reward for her 15 years of gentle, faithful companionship!
If someone will take this beautiful Nebelung (German name for the long haired gray cat known as a "creature of the mist"), we have a sponsor who will pay to have her examined and treated by a vet.
Since her euthanasia fee was paid, she MUST have commitment by 3 PM Monday (Feb 28)!
Who makes up these moronic rules? Give the jerk a refund and don't put the cat down! This is a SERIOUS URGENT, please cross post and share!

Samantha On My Mind
Little Samantha is such a sweet, gentle young lady. Of the three, she seems the most sick, probably because it took them another week to catch her. I noticed she seemed to be shivering intermittently this morning so I had her come lay with me for a little while.
I apologize for the darkness of the video, I have the blinds closed because when any of them see something move outside, they freak out and hide, poor things. Can you see while I'm falling for her? hehe I'm hoping once we get this nasty URI our of their systems, they will perk up and be a little more adventurous. Annie is already showing signs of this, she may be the smallest but she is definitely the spunkiest!
Thoughts and Prayers

Also, I decided to change Sigourney's name to Samantha cause it fits her better. I might just keep her, she's stolen my heart. =)

Heart Strings
These three young ladies are truly tearing at my heart strings. I don't know if it's the mother in me that just wants them to be well or just plain on compassion. But these three are so sick with their URI's that they have mucus the "sneeze" out and sometimes they gape their mouths open to catch a breath, it just breaks my heart. On top of their poor little suffering, I have to give them medicine which seems to be a bit more traumatic. I apologize to them the entire time even after they retreat back in the little cardboard box I set up my bed for them. They stare at me with confused sickly eyes and I feel horrible, even though I know its going to help them. Annie seems to be the bravest of the three, she's snoozing next to me whilst Dana and Sigourney cuddle in the box.

And then there were THREE!
The skittish 3rd sister has joined us. I don't know any other female characters in Ghostbusters so we shall call her Sigourney after the wonderful actress. She is sick with an URI as well so I have my hands full with the three of them but they are so beautiful and sweet, I won't mind at all.

Introducing Annie and Dana
Well for now it's just the two, they are named after characters in Ghostbusters! The third one is still prett anti-social and our foster chair didn't want me to have to handle that as well for now. These two are still a little feral but warming up to being pet. So without further ado, may I introduce.....

3 Little Ones!
Well it looks like I will be welcoming THREE little ones into our foster home either tomorrow or Saturday! These little ones were recently trapped and vetted. They are still trying to trap the feral mother so she can at least be spayed and returned if efforts to tame her are unsuccessful. They all have URIs so it will be a little more work than usual and also one of them is a little skittish but I think my overwhelming love and patience will win them over to the tame side.
Angel is doing MUCH better, her nose doesn't look like it went through a lawnmower anymore. She has a suitor who saw her on our Facebook site! From what I hear it is a gentleman with no other animals which would work out perfectly for her so let's keep our fingers crossed that this is her furever home.
If you are in the Baton Rouge area, please be sure to stop by PetSmart on Siegen to check out our cats and dogs up for adoption!

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Louis Adopted!
I went in on Saturday to pick up Momma and Louis as adoption day at PetSmart wrapped up. Well he had someone filling out papers as I arrived! A very nice young couple with a cat and a sweet golden retriever decided to take Louis home. I got to chat with them a bit before I left and they were very nice and wanted to know everything about Louis they could from me. I was very happy for him!
Angel has an upper respiratory infection so I've been treating her with meds once a day and it looks like I may get some little ones this Saturday who also have URI's. I have a second interview on Wednesday that I'm excited about so I shall keep everyone posted on all the above!
Mommy wrapped me up nice and warm zzzzzz |
